Fourth Element swim suits are "Ocean Positive". Each suit is 78% made from ECONYL® yarn - yarn that is spun from recycled ghost fishing nets and other discarded waste.

Originally, Fourth Element OceanPositive products were conceived as a result of recycled ghost nets and other discarded waste – turned into to use in our swimwear and rashguards. The company believes, looking to the future, that the issues that surround the destruction of our seas go far beyond just abandoned fishing nets. Being ‘OceanPositive’ spans from not just what we do in the ocean but also what we do in our everyday lives.

Approximately 1.4 billion pounds of rubbish per year enters our seas. Dumped into our oceans daily, this threatens marine life, pollutes beaches and affects local tourism industries. In several parts of the world including the Gulf of Mexico and the Baltic Sea, depletion of oxygen in the water has created enormous dead zones. Imagine if below the water there was no more coral reef to explore, unique plants are dying out, wildlife is scarce and some cases, becoming extinct.

WORKING TOGETHER

For scuba divers, snorkelers and many other water sport enthusiasts, the ocean is a place of beauty and we must fight to help it survive the impact of human activity. Fourth Element takes pride in the small steps it takes everyday to not only improve our products but also to consider the environmental impact of everything that manufactured.

Working with organisations such as World Animal Protection, Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) and Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust in supporting Fathoms Free, the company's enthusiastic team of wildlife lovers and keen divers regularly help with activities such as beach cleans and retrieving ghost fishing nets.

Fourth Element's swimwear line will continue to be made from 78% recycled materials. The company plans to expand the range to include more Hydroskins, Hydro Leggings and a Core Range of products available year upon year. Each piece of swimwear will come packaged in our non-plastic bags. Made from cassava starch and other renewable resources, it biodegrades in months and is safe if consumed by animals.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

All new products will be housed in plastic-free packaging. Fourth Element has moved away from plastic postage bags, providing customers with cardboard or paper packaging which can be reused and recycled.
