Waterproof Expeditions' Winter Whales of Norway Travel Guide will give you a comprehensive look into what to expect during our trip.
Weather Conditions: We will be traveling during the late fall/early winter in northern Norway, where air temperatures will likely never reach above freezing. Daylight hours will shorten as the trip goes on, but you will typically have daylight for approximately five hours a day. High winds can be expected but are not the norm.
Water Conditions: Water temperatures will typically be just above freezing, between 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit. When the wind picks up, waves will not be uncommon but the boats will be able to hide in the fjords and maneuver to find the best whale watching areas based on weather and water conditions.
Typical Animal Sightings: While we are mostly looking for Orcas, you will also have a chance to see Humpback whales as well as Fin whales. Many sea birds will be flying above, making for a spectacular show in and out of the water!
Physical Activity Level: We recommend that you have at least some snorkeling experience and that you are in good physical condition, able to swim well and pull yourself in and out of the water onto a zodiac (with assistance).
